The awards were held at the Quality Hotel, East Bolden with company representatives and family members present to support the students.

Andrew Tham and Katie Johanson were the overall winners and will be going on to compete in the regional finals, which will be held at Durham Cricket Club on October 14th.

The event was a success and all the students produced great presentations and should be proud of their achievements during the summer. bmarketing publish a successful week daily newsletter, called the bdaily. The bdaily informs local SMEs, governing bodies and the public sector about local and regional news, feeds, events and more...

Currently, the bdaily is published and maintained manually, which requires a full-time editor and an additional technical designer to compose the newsletters. However, during my placement with bmarketing, I designed a web application, which allowed users with no technical knowledge to easily maintain the bdaily and effectively cut the time to publish a newsletter in half.

I thoroughly enjoyed my time with the b and gained valuable knowledge and experience. I have also taken part in a national competition in which I will write a report on my findings and then produce a presentation to a panels of judges at the end of our placements. The winner will go on to the regional finals and could have a chance of winning a place in the national finals.

Throughout the whole experience, TEDCO trainer Christine Ward will mentor the students and prepare us for the final presentation.

The STEP programme is a great opportunity for both the businesses and the students because the companies will benefit from the enthusiasm and new ideas brought by students. The students gain valuable experience and will help them once they have graduated.
